Having realised that many of the cakes I do require a bit of background information to make sense, (this week's wedding cake featuring a pair of trumpets being a case in point) I've decided to start keeping a blog so that if you're interested, you can see what I'm up to and why. Also thought I might share the odd recipe or tip and keep you updated with events, workshops and beer festivals that I'm involved with. Having mentioned the wedding cake, it make sense to start with that. It was commissioned by a pair of trumpeters from the Liverpool Phil, Brendan and Toko; his is the gold trumpet, hers the silver and they played a duet for their guests at the reception. The purple flowers were to match the bride's dress and bouquet with a nod towards Japanese cherry blossom to remind the bride of home! The picture on the top is their favourite photograph and is printed onto icing and set into an icing frame. The bottom layer was a Liverpool Organic 24 Carat carrot cake and the middle layer an Organic Kitty Wilkinson chocolate and vanilla cake and the Liverpool Organic Brewery sponsor Brendan's seat at the Phil so they had a particular relevance to the couple. I love working to make things really personalised and this cake presented so much scope for that. This was just one of quite a varied collection of cakes this week; here they all are assembled and ready for pick up.
